The dilly-dallying over the decision to accept or reject these NGV-powered buses was a main reason BMTA chief Surachai Eamvachirasakul was Section 44'd out of office. (Bangkok Post file photos)Deputy permanent secretary for transport Somsak Hommuang has been appointed acting chief of the bedeviled Bangkok Mass Transit Authority amid hope he will help speed up the BMTA's decision on whether to scrap the purchase of natural gas vehicle (NGV) buses. The appointment was approved Monday by the BMTA's board, its chairman Pol Gen Ake Angsananont said. The move follows an order by Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha last Wednesday to transfer Mr Somsak's predecessor, Surachai Eamvachirasakul, to the Prime Minister's Office. Early last month, Mr Surachai said the BMTA had decided to scrap the contract, but the BMTA delayed informing Bestlin Group of its decision to avoid a possible civil lawsuit.
